Minister Daniela Schmitt hands over funding approval for our new R&D research project ‘LC Laser Modulation’

Our new project on coating development through laser spot modulation in collaboration with IPG Photonics is receiving financial support from the state of Rhineland-Palatinate. The aim of the ‘LC Modulation’ project is to increase the performance of laser cladding through the use of a new type of laser source. For the first time, a fibre laser is being used that modulates a laser spot from seven individual laser beams.

A special feature here is that the power of each individual laser beam can be adjusted separately. In combination with the GTV-6 beam powder laser nozzle, this makes it possible to adjust the heat input into the powder individually for each injection point, which represents further optimisation potential, particularly in the development of in-situ alloys.

In addition, research is being conducted to determine whether modulation can be used to produce smoother surfaces, thereby reducing the amount of post-processing required.

On 23 February 2026, we had the pleasure of welcoming Minister Daniela Schmitt to our premises for the symbolic presentation of the funding approval for our research project and, of course, to give her an insight into our ever-growing research and development division.
